Hard Haunted Mansion 2010 Review

Groove Monsters were lucky enough to catch HHM at the Shrine this year! Both nights were sold out, the venue was perfect, the music was eargasmic, and special guest on Sunday was MIIKE SNOW!! Here’s a little recap of what went down, cheers!

Favorites of the weekend:

1. Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77

Soulwax on steroids. That’s basically the only way to describe what the Bloody Beetroots are live with their crew. Intense energy combined with suspensfully drawn-out transitions, this was our favorite performance of the weekend.

2. A-Trak

This guy gets better and better every time he performs! His style of combining turntablism and electro-mashing is so unique, you just stand there in awe of his skill. A-Trak dropped some NASTY beats while showing us his groovey half of Duck Sauce. If you’ve never seen him live, we suggest you put him next on your list :)

3. Miike Snow

Sunday’s surprise guest surely did not disappoint. With their usual mellow style of music (Animal, Black & Blue…), the DJ set came out with ridiculously banging tracks that melted many unsuspecting faces. In combination with mind-blowing graphics, lighting, and standing in front, Miike Snow truly made this an unforgettable night.

4. Calvin Harris

Calvin could have possibly been my favorite of the weekend if he had dropped Colors, The Girls, Ready for the Weekend…basically any of his own songs! Flashback was damn good, but definitely wanted more Calvin. Rumor is he wants to be known as a DJ and not a ‘popstar’, so he is straying away from playing live sets and his own material.  Regardless, DJ or popstar, he was an epic performer; especially his Satisfaction to One More Time transition (see video). Thank you for throwing it down!!

5. Rusko

Another one of those performers who kept us going CRAZY! Rusko’s ability to keep the crowd engaged through his music and the mic is unmatched. We all know his music, but hearing him perform it live is one hell of an experience. LONG LIVE RUSKO!!

Very, very honorable mentions:

Brodinksi, SebastiAn, Fake Blood, Jack Beats, Boys Noize.
