Music Mondays Vol. 20

This past weekend, Orange County, CA was spoiled with some fantastic music; Cut Copy, Chk Chk Chk, Ali Love, Black Lips just to name a few. Although Pacific Festival has come and gone, doesn’t mean we can’t relive those memories! Here is a special video edition of Music Mondays, showcasing our favorite performances from the day. Check ‘em out!

Music Mondays: 8/15

Monday: Calvin Harris

Tuesday: Ghostland Observatory

Wednesday: Snoop Dogg

Thursday: Fred Falke

Friday: Bag Raiders

Weekend Bonus: Identity Festival is coming to a city near you! Check out the site for full details. For now, here’s Steve Aoki killin’ it at ID Fest Indianapolis!

The highlight of my night was when Snoop-a-loop dropped his tribute to the late Nate Dogg. His whole set was a trip down memory lane, and it reminded me of the genius behind that entire era of music. Nobody truly does it better! R.I.P.

Au revoir, Cinespace. Hello Dim Mak Studios!

Home to countless nights of electronic music and ragers, the [in]famous Cinespace is closing. HOWEVER, the space is now being separated into two separate venues! According to an article by LA Weekly, Dave Dickerson (co-owner of Cinespace) states “In the theatre area, we are joining forces with Steve Aoki and his Dim Mak lifestyle brand to deliver a unique pop-up bar experience called ‘Dim Mak Studios’…there are plans for the front lounge as well, but we are not ready to announce those yet.”

We’re stoked for the big things that are happening to the Hollywood electro scene, I mean living down the street and all. We originally found out about this spot through Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Tuesdays and man, were we hooked. Our first encounter featured a special DJ set by Will.I.Am. Little did we know, DMT is known for rewarding Hollywood with surprise guests. During the opening DJ set comes along this white male who whispers something in the openers ear, the DJ nods at him, and then they switch laptops. As the lid opens up, there lies a fatty DJ AM/Deckstar sticker…and everyone goes CRAZY! Adam Goldstein graces us with an epic mashup set that had us rockin’ and rollin’ all over eachother, and it was glorious. It truly was a blessing to see this man in action. Rest in peace good sir, you are dearly missed.

Always a crazy crowd at Cinespace
Photobucket His set was followed by a surprise performance by Steve himself and only one word can sum a live Aoki set: madness. Will.I.Am closed the night with an awesome DJ set and we didn’t even know he spun! Safe to say, our $5 cover was maximized. Dim Mak Tuesdays has played host to a wide array of artists, small and big. From Kid Cudi to Chromeo to Kelis, the speakers of Cinespace have bumped some amazing tunes. Check these past flyers out:

This Tuesday, February 1, marks the last Dim Mak event at Cinespace. We highly suggest you get on the $5 RSVP list for what’s guaranteed to be a fantastic night. Cheers and thanks for the memories Cinespace!
